Lucchi R. E-Motor Solutions, in collaboration with the University of Bristol, the University of Bucharest and Motor Design Limited, took part in the ELETAD project as part of the European research program Clean Sky. The team developed, built and tested a highly efficient electric tail rotor drive for helicopters in collaboration with Agusta Westland. The technology developed has enabled the following achievements: reduction of fuel consumption with a consequent reduction in the emission of CO2 and nitrous oxide into the atmosphere; reduction of external noise; optimization of the environmental impact of end-of-life aircraft through recycling operations and reuse of their components. In this environment, weight, fault tolerance and safety-critical operations become the main drivers requiring innovative use of modern materials and new technologies.
